Criteria For Placing Speed Bumps On Roads

Two criteria must be considered for the implementation of speed bumps on roads: location and limitations.

Location

The purpose of speed bumps is to reduce the speed of vehicles, a speed that should have already been reduced previously with signs, roundabouts, etc. Check how much do speed bump cost?

Regarding their location, it should be noted that they are usually located at the beginning of a crossing or section. If you want to put consecutive reducers, the distance between them should range between 50 and 200 meters, although it is advisable not to exceed 150 meters.

Limitations

There are several limitations when it comes to placing speed reducers:

  • In-network sections that are not considered crossing.
  • In the first 50 meters from the beginning of the crossing, when there is no entrance door.
  • On crossings whose length is less than 200 meters.
  • At points where the V85 exceeds 60km / h.
  • In bridges or tunnels or other singular masonry works, and the previous or subsequent 25 meters.
  • In the crossing sections with a slope greater than 5%.
  • In the crossing sections, there are two lanes of traffic unless there is a non-passable median separating the directions.
  • In sections of crossings with an IMD greater than 5000 vh or a peak hourly intensity more significant than 300 vh.
  • In cross-country sections with an IMD of heavy vehicles more significant than 300 vh.

Donkey-type reducers cannot be placed near intersections so that pedestrians do not mistake them for crosswalks.

When Are Cross Alert Bands Used?

And when are they used? The purpose of its placement, as we have mentioned, is to convey to the driver of a vehicle they need to be extremely careful as they could be approaching a section where there is a higher road risk.
